Issue Summary
While editing a piece of content or campaign in Firstup Studio, the text looks correct in the editor. However, after publishing, the text looks wrong in the employee experience. "Wrong" can include one or more of the following: text loses formatting (bold, italic, color, font size, font type), text loses spaces between words, extremely wide line spacing, outlines around the body of text, text alignment outside the margins, and font that changes from sans serif to serif, etc.
This issue usually occurs after copying and pasting from a Microsoft program such as MS Word, MS Outlook, or MS Powerpoint.
This issue behavior is not limited to Microsoft programs. If your text looks wrong after publishing and you copied and pasted the material, please try the resolutions outlined below to correct the issue.
Environment
- Studio - article posts and campaigns
- Windows OS
- Multiple browsers (Chrome, IE, Firefox)
Root Cause & Resolution
The 3rd party tool that Firstup leverages for formatting article and campaign content is not 100% compatible with Rich Text Formatting (RTF). This can result in issues when copying from an RTF document and pasting into Studio's editor.
Firstup is coordinating efforts with the 3rd party tool to minimize formatting issues, but there are some specific nuances that may continue to be an issue.
There are two options to avoid the issue. Both options require pasting plain text and applying the formatting using the Studio editor toolbar.
Paste as Plain Text on Chrome
- Use Google Chrome to access Studio.
- Copy the text.
- You can copy from the original source or copy the text that is already in the article or campaign.
- Delete the issue text.
- Right-click in the editor and choose "Paste as plain text".
- Apply formatting using the Studio editor toolbar.
Paste as Plain Text in Any Browser
- Use any browser to access Studio.
- Copy the text.
- You can copy from the original source or copy the text that is already in the article or campaign.
- Delete the issue text.
- Click into the editor and use CTRL+SHIFT+V to paste.
- Apply formatting using the Studio editor toolbar.
