How Do Smart Campaigns Work
With the Announce, Promote, and Require campaigns, you can set up intelligent campaigns while creating and publishing a piece of content. Notify users of important updates and automatically follow up with those users who didn't see or acknowledge an important post on the first try. These campaigns vary in the number of notifications included and the delivery cadence - giving you a range of methods to promote content, depending on the importance and urgency of each post.
Reach all of your users simultaneously - by email or push notification. The Smart Campaigns with combined email/push notification will first attempt to deliver a push notification to all mobile users in the target group and send email to the email only users. Of the push notification users, any users who did not successfully receive a push notification will then be sent the corresponding email notification! Note that all campaigns skip weekend days, so durations between notifications will vary based on the start and end dates.
Program Managers and Administrators can send Smart Campaigns. Program Studio users with the Publisher role will not see the Smart Campaigns options while creating content as Publishers do not have access to Campaigns functionality.
In Program Studio, you can only enable one Smart Campaign for each content card. Once that campaign has run, you are not able to create a second Smart Campaign for that same piece of content.

Create an Announce Campaign
- In the Content Card Editor, select the Announce from the publish settings menu.
- Determine your target audience by selecting a group for your campaign. Start typing the name of a group and select a group from the results list. You can add more than one group. If you do not select a group, the campaign will be targeted to All Registered Users.
- Select if you want to send both a Push Notification and an Email, or only one communication method, by checking or unchecking the boxes next to each option.
When both options are selected, we will only send each user one or the other. This choice is dependent on their reachability in our system. - Configure your messaging for your push notification copy and/or email subject line.
Optional: Type {{ to include personalized variables for each user like First Name. - Send yourself a test by clicking the eye icon. We will send a test email or push notification to the email address/device associated with the Program Studio account that generated the test request.
- Click Save to save your changes. The campaign will be activated on the day and time your post is published.
Create a Promote Campaign
- In the Content Card Editor, select the Promote from the publish settings menu and choose 'Use this campaign'.
- Determine your target audience by selecting a group for your campaign. Start typing the name of a group and select a group from the results list. You can add more than one group. If you do not select a group, the campaign will be targeted to All Registered Users.
- Set the Campaign Duration (i.e. how long the campaign will run). Click the down arrow to choose one of the preset options, or determine a custom length. The maximum length is 90 days. Depending on the length of your campaign, additional messaging points may appear.
- Configure the messaging for each push notification copy and email subject line. Unlike an Announce Campaign, you cannot disable a messaging point for a Promote Campaign. Every user who receives a Promote Campaign will receive either a push notification or email, depending on their reachability in our system.
Optional: Type {{ to include personalized variables for each user like First Name.
Announcement: either a push notification or an email is sent to users in the target group(s) when the content card is published.
Reminder(s):either a push notification or an email is only sent to users in the target group(s) who have not read the post. - Send yourself a test by clicking the eye icon. We will send a test email or push notification to the email address/device associated with the Program Studio account that generated the test request.
- Click Save to save your changes. The initial announcement is sent at the time that the post is published.
2-step campaigns will send the reminder notification 1 day before the campaign ends.
3-step campaigns will send the first reminder halfway through the campaign duration, and the second reminder 1 day before the campaign ends.
Create a Require Campaign
Require is only available for Articles. To set up a require campaign for a video, you can generate a video embed code after uploading, and embed the video into an article.

However, you can customize the button text that appears over the Article - just be aware that this custom text will appear to all users regardless of their language. Click the down arrow to choose one of the preset options, or type in a custom button text up to 40 characters.
Note that you cannot disable a messaging point.
Optional: Type {{ to include personalized variables for each user like First Name.

2-step campaigns will send the reminder notification 1 day before the campaign ends.
3-step campaigns will send the first reminder halfway through the campaign duration, and the second reminder 1 day before the campaign ends.
Require Campaign Acknowledgement Metrics
Once your Require campaign has started, you can view and download a report to see which users have and have not acknowledged the post from the Content Editor.
- Navigate to Publish > Content and select Edit for the content card that was required.
- In the sidebar, you can see the percentage of your targeted group that has already acknowledged the campaign.
- Click on x% of users completed to see a list of all target users with their acknowledgement status (both completed and incomplete), and the date of completion (N/A if incomplete).
- Click Download List to export a CSV version of this report.
The downloaded list of acknowledgement status can be used as a starting point to create a custom group via bulk upload.
